Dark Energy, but not evil?

We recently moved home into a beautiful space with amazing views of the valley and a home that held family energy, a lovely space we feel grateful to be in.

But after settling in I began sensing something unusual in our home. It’s hard to describe — not frightening, not heavy — just different. It’s a presence, not a ghost or a spirit, doesn’t feel like an imprint or anything like that. The presence feels tall, slender, and quiet, almost like a silhouette moving between worlds. It doesn’t feel like the energies I’m used to noticing, and somehow, that quietly drew my awareness.

Life in a Busy Home

Our home is full of life, energy, and the usual whirl of a busy family — six kids, a hardworking husband, and all the movement and emotion that comes with that. I like to smudge regularly, because it feels aligned for me to care for the space and maintain a sense of calm and clarity. Over the years, I’ve noticed how easily the energy of stress, tension, or exhaustion can cling to the walls, the furniture, and even the air. Normally, once I clear and realign the space, everything feels lighter and more expansive.

But this… this was different.

First Impressions

At first, I wondered if it might be a residual imprint — energy that lingers from previous owners or old memories attached to the home. There’s a certain stillness to it, like a quiet observer rather than something intrusive. Because the owners of this home have Chinese heritage, I wondered if there might be a cultural or spiritual connection I wasn’t yet understanding. In Chinese tradition, homes are considered sacred vessels for ancestral energy. The land and the structure itself can hold stories, prayers, and protection from those who came before. Part of me felt I could be sensing something ancestral — not unwelcome, just unfamiliar.

When I began my usual clearing — smudging with sage, calling in light, and using frequency intention — the energy didn’t shift the way I expected. Normally, I notice a sense of release, a gentle expansion, or a lifting of heaviness. This time, the energy stayed put — calm, quiet, and unmoved. I’ve experienced dense or resistant energy before, but this wasn’t negative. It simply was.

Moments of Awareness

Over time, there were moments when I wasn’t actively paying attention, and that’s when it seemed to make itself known.

The first time, I felt its presence behind me while brushing my teeth before bed. I didn’t see it directly, but I could feel it. Then, as I glanced toward the front of my vision, I noticed a looming darkness forming — like a round, balloon-shaped head drifting slowly into my sight. When I turned slightly, it seemed to stretch, almost like it was bending or curving around my peripheral vision, as though testing its proximity.

It was curious, but not mischievous or invasive. When I tuned in to its energy, I felt that it simply wanted to see how close it could get to my line of sight before I would notice. There was no agenda, no emotion — just an almost neutral, plain curiosity.

Another evening, I opened my son’s bedroom door and was met by what I can only describe as a shadow wall. I took a step back and simply asked, without speaking, for it to move. As I blinked and opened my eyes again, the space had shifted, and it was gone. Another time, I noticed it standing near my son’s doorway, quietly observing. And once, outside, I felt a tiny, almost imperceptible touch on my shirt — like a bug landing — and sensed the same neutral curiosity again.

Reflection and Speculation

All these encounters have led me to wonder: has this energy ever met someone like me before? Someone who can see and feel it? Its curiosity seems to stem from the awareness that I can perceive it, and perhaps that alone draws it close.

I’ve also considered that it could be something technological — some kind of energetic AI — though I’m not certain if that’s possible. There’s something about the neutrality of its presence that feels different from spirits, guides, or ancestral energy I’ve worked with before.

Whatever it is, it seems aware that I can perceive it. It doesn’t resist my presence, but it doesn’t yield either. It simply observes.

I like to maintain my weekly smudging, because it feels aligned for me and helps balance the natural energy of our home. But I no longer approach this presence with the expectation of clearing it. Instead, I stay aware, grounded, and respectful. I remind it that our home is a space of light and harmony, and that it may exist peacefully here. Even when I set boundaries, I sense that this won’t be a normal conversation — unlike speaking with a spirit guide or someone who has passed, there’s no shared understanding of language or intention in the same way.

I plan to explore communicating with it through frequency, starting with love, which feels like the clearest and most harmonious way to connect.

I’m sharing this not to give advice, but because experiences with energy don’t always fit neat categories. For those of us with heightened sensitivity or clairvoyance, our environments reflect our own vibration — our curiosity, awareness, and openness. Sometimes, when we encounter something that doesn’t feel dark or harmful, yet doesn’t respond to traditional rituals, perhaps the role isn’t to fix it. Perhaps it’s to witness it, reflect on it, and expand our understanding of consciousness itself.

Maybe the lesson isn’t about clearing the unknown, but noticing the layers of awareness that exist in our world — and seeing what emerges when we simply pay attention.

  • Energetic imprinting: Emotional and energetic frequencies may linger in spaces, sometimes described as “residual haunting” or energetic recording.
